Galantis electrifies campus at Big Show
CSUN Associated Students (AS) held Big Show once again last Saturday on the Library Lawn. Among the performers was Christian “Bloodshy” Karlsson of Galantis, a Swedish electronic music act named “Best Breakthrough Artist” of the International Dance Music Awards in 2015.

Galantis is noteworthy for songs like “Runaway (U & I),” “Peanut Butter Jelly,” and “No Money.” He started his career working with producer and DJ Linus Eklöw, known as Style of Eye, after Karlsson’s band Miike Show asked Eklöw to remix their song “Animal.” Eklöw parted from the act shortly after their second album, “The Aviary,” in 2017, while Karlsson continued to DJ for crowds, with Big Show the latest among them.
Big Show brings Matadors and friends together for an unforgettable day of music, energy and bonding every semester, with past performances coming from Steve Aoki and Deorro.
AS Programs Manager James Forrester said Big Show began about 25 years ago in response to student interest.
”Back in the day, students wanted to have some type of concert-level experience that was on campus to attend,” Forrester said. “The show has grown and grown over the years, but the one thing that hadn’t changed was students wanting that experience.”
Lead Event Producer Peyton Lustyk said, “We choose brands that many will like. You don’t have to be a big fan of EBM, but you can still come to the Big Show and participate in the bracelets, glitters and tattoos.”
As the crowd slowly gathered throughout the hour, Galantis came on stage, setting off cheers. While music vibrated and surreal pictures of people with trumpets for heads appeared on the screen, he set to work.

Among the fun for students were games, such as volleyball and cornhole. While waiting for Galantis, they could treat themselves to fresh, fruity ice cream from Creamery Boys and modern Mexican food from Border Grill available at food trucks. Additionally, AS hosted “Hot Seat,” a web series where students answer random questions about campus and share their hot takes.
“Seeing students enjoy this whole show is awesome to see, and all we are trying to achieve is the bond of a good time,” Forrester said.
Future events can be found on the AS Instagram page, including Sustainability Day on Oct. 22 and the Pumpkin Festival on Oct. 28.
