Statement on NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee Decision Regarding CSUN Men’s Basketball
Today the NCAA announced (https://www.ncaa.org/news/2023/9/28/media-center-infractions-appeals-committee-vacates-penalties-for-csun-mens-basketball-remands-case.aspx) the NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee decision to vacate some of the institutional penalties prescribed in the NCAA's December 2022 case decision related to a prior men's basketball coaching staff. As an institution firmly committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and compliance within its Athletics program, we are pleased the Infractions Appeals Committee determined that CSUN Athletics Department compliance systems should be recognized as a mitigating factor in determining the outcome of this case. The decision recognized CSUN's "compliance conscience", which ensured a strong culture of NCAA rules compliance and resulted in the immediate detection and reporting of the violations.
The case has been remanded to the Committee on Infractions to determine penalties consistent with this decision and we look forward to bringing this matter to a final resolution.
