- 11:00 AMDEI + Accessibility: Adding the A to the DEI Equation with Candis WelchJoin the University Student Union for a day of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) and Accessibility featuring a keynote presentation by renowned DEI practitioner and CSUN alum Candis Welch.The event will kick off with a keynote presentation on expanding the DEI equation to include accessibility, fostering an inclusive environment, discussing disability and implicit bias, and going beyond compliance to true accessibility. Candis will also trace her personal story, her journey here at CSUN and her advocacy work towards creating a more equitable and accessible world!Candis Welch graduated from CSUN with her B.A. in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations. She began her career in entertainment publicity, working for various clients and firms, including Issa Rae Productions, where she coordinated Issa Rae’s many business ventures. In 2013, Candis pivoted into the government sector and enrolled back at CSUN to earn her Master’s in Public Administration.As a disabled Black woman, Candis’ passion for advocacy led her to join the Government Alliance for Racial Equity (GARE) which would introduce her to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion space. Candis hopes to change the perception of those that are disabled and/or using mobility devices, helping to advocate for their rights to equal access in public and private spaces, transportation, and general accommodation.The day will cap off with an opportunity to engage with the ideas discussed via a Q&A with Candice Welch, followed by a meet & greet!So, don’t miss out on this incredible event presented by the University Student Union… Where Matadors Belong!/Do you need interpretation for this event?
