From June 20 to July 24, GoMatadors.com will present its top 10 CSUN sports moments from the 2022-23 year. At No. 5, the CSUN women's tennis team earns its first postseason berth since 2001.

Universal Tennis announced that CSUN would make its first postseason berth since the 2001 NCAA Tournament when the organization awarded the Matadors a berth in the inaugural Universal Tennis National Invitational Tennis Championship (NIT Championship).

The Matadors faced Stetson in the quarterfinals of the tournament on May 17. The Hatters defeated CSUN 4-1. The dual was delayed 30 minutes, and was forced to move inside due to rain in the area. With only three opening-day starters in the lineup for the Matadors, the Hatters took the doubles point as Noa Cohen and Anais Gabriel defeated Yuliia Zhytelna and Emma Moratalla Sanz at No.2, and Magda Hedrzak and Pilar Harper defeated Cindy Ung and Tallia Harper by identical 6-3 scores.

Angela Ho tied the dual for CSUN when she opened singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory against Cheri Darley at No. 3. The Hatters won the next two singles matches. First, Alanna DiFrancesco defeated Jolene Coetzee 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 1 before Gabriel posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Zhytelna in No. 2 play. Finally, Harper defeated Sofia Dermenjyan 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the victory.

The Matadors went 17-7, the most dual wins for the program since 2011, when CSUN won 16 (16-6). CSUN defeated three teams (Boston U, Fordham, and Youngstown State) that won their respective conferences and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The Matadors ended 2023 with a 6-3 league record, the most victories for the Matadors in Big West play since 2008 when CSUN went 6-2 in conference play. CSUN defeated UC Santa Barbara twice, the 2022 Big West Champions.
