- 2:00 PM1h 15mBilingual Book Presentation: Sik'inik Chukojol CholajThis virtual and in-person book presentation will host guest speakers Angel Poyón and Fernando Poyón, both Maya Kaqchikel artists from Comalapa, Guatemala, and the Kaqjay Collective in Patzicia, Guatemala that organized their exhibition titled Sik'inik Chukojol Cholaj (Voices within the fields). The event will highlight the publication of their exhibition catalog, a publication that is unprecedented because it is rare for an Indigenous collective to take on a curatorial role and because contemporary art is rarely installed surrounded by agricultural fields or for Indigenous communities to have access to the works. More importantly, it makes visible the production of thought, art, and content from within contemporary Indigenous communities. Sponsored by Department of Central American and Transborder Studies, College of Humanities Academic Programing Fund, Central American Research and Policy Institute (CARPI), and BHALAM Rhizomotic Community.
