NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - In its ongoing series of nights honoring the University Faculty, CSUN Athletics and the nationally-ranked Matador men's volleyball team paid tribute to 13 professors during its Most Valuable Professor (MVP) night on Saturday (Jan. 27) in Premier America Credit Union Arena.
"The initiative of MVP Night is a testament to the profound relationships and mutual respect fostered between student-athletes and faculty members," said Shawn Chin-Farrell, CSUN's Director of Athletics.
Between sets two and three of the CSUN-Charleston match, each participating student-athlete honored one professor who has significantly impacted their academic journey, underscoring the deep connections beyond the classroom. Each of the 13 CSUN professors was honored in an on-court ceremony.
- Valerie Flugge, a professor in the Department of Business Law, was invited by student-athlete Donovan Constable.
- Terry Fuller, a professor in the Department of Mathematics, was invited by student-athlete Owen Douphner.
- Paul Gale, a professor in the Department of Kinesiology, was invited by student-athlete Hank Kaufman.
- Beverly Gunderson, a professor in the Department of Mathematics, was invited by student-athlete Trevor Lau.
- Ced Hackett, a professor in the Department of Africana Studies, was invited by student-athlete Lorenzo Bertozzi.
- Malinda Hackett, a professor in the Department of English, was invited by student-athlete Nir Eitan.
- Wendy Hassenpflug, a professor in the Department of Kinesiology, was invited by student-athlete Ben Martinez.
- Tim Kuns, a professor in the Department of Religious Studies, was invited by student-athlete Jackson Payne.
- Rebecca Litke, a professor in the Department of Communication Studies, was invited by student-athlete Niall Finnegan.
- Lucy Mendoza, a professor in the Department of Business, was invited by student-athlete Emmanuel Wandji.
- Delfina Newton, a professor in the Department of Recreation and Tourism Management, was invited by student-athlete Jackson Payne.
- Linda Nunez, a professor in the Department of Journalism, was invited by student-athlete Jano Tello.
- Lucca Ricci, a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, was invited by student-athlete Matteo Salvador.
The next Most Valuable Professor Day will be held on Apr. 13 prior to the CSUN baseball game vs. Long Beach State.
