From June 17 to August 9, GoMatadors.com will present the top CSUN Moments from the 2023-24 sports season. Today's moment features the CSUN men's golf team which posted three top five finishes, set the individual single-season scoring record and played in a postseason tournament for the first time since 2000.
 

 
During the 2023-24 season, the Matadors posted three top-five finishes as five players finished the season with a scoring average of 74 or better. Graduate transfer Antoine Sale set the single-season scoring record, averaging 70.79 over 33 rounds to lead the squad. Sale and senior Felix Schrott earned All-Big West accolades.

Schrott, who ranks third in single-season scoring at 71.24, posted CSUN's lone individual win of the season, firing a 12-under 198 to win the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate in February. Schrott also had three other top-five finishes, including a team-best seventh-place finish at the GOLFWEEK National Golf Invitational, CSUN's first postseason appearance since 2001.

Following Sale (70.79) and Schrott (71.24), McDonough finished with a season scoring average of 73.12, Eirik Thomassen finished at 73.19, Thomas Burou finished at 73.93, Dillon Jonke finished at 75.33, and Liam Judkins finished at 75.75. Thomassen capped his CSUN career with a scoring average of 73.04 which ranks sixth in the program's Division I history.
 
Sale, Schrott, McDonough, and Judkins represented CSUN in the postseason at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Arizona. The Matadors posted a final round 292 and tied for seventh while Schrott led CSUN with a seventh-place finish while fellow seniors Sale and McDonough tied for 11th to pace the Matadors. Judkins, a freshman, wound up tied for 44th to round out the CSUN lineup.

As a team, CSUN (866) posted rounds of 290-284-292 to finish in a tie for seventh in the 10-team field. Washington State (823) overtook round two leader TCU (842) to claim the team title while Valparaiso's Anthony Delisanti took home individual medalist honors, defeating the Cougars' Sam Renner by one shot. Schrott wound up just eight shots back of the individual champion.

"This was a good way for us to finish up the season, special for the three seniors and a great learning experience for our freshman." said head coach Jim Bracken following the tournament. "It was great for Felix, Antoine, and Brandon to play one more event together and I know Liam felt a little pressure knowing he would count. He's a talented player and he'll learn from this experience and gain a lot of confidence from it. Some of our other seniors couldn't play in this event due to graduation, but a few other schools were in the same boat. All of the seniors will be missed next year, but we're excited about the new group of guys that will take us forward."
