NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - In its ongoing series of nights honoring the University Faculty, CSUN Athletics and the Matador women's basketball team paid tribute to 11 professors during its Most Valuable Professor (MVP) night on Thursday (Feb. 15) in Premier America Credit Union Arena.

"The initiative of MVP Night is a testament to the profound relationships and mutual respect fostered between student-athletes and faculty members," said Shawn Chin-Farrell, CSUN's Director of Athletics.

At halftime of the CSUN-Cal State Bakersfield game, each participating student-athlete honored one professor who has significantly impacted their academic journey, underscoring the deep connections beyond the classroom. Each of the 11 CSUN professors were honored in an on-court ceremony.

  • Lori Campbell, a professor in the Department of Sociology, was invited by student-athlete Arina Nikishina.
  • Ced Hackett, a professor in the Department of Africana Studies, was invited by Kaitlyn Elsholz.
  • Victoria Hernandez, a professor in the Department of Child and Adolescent Development, was invited by student-athlete Rochelle Fourie.
  • Jacob Jensen, a professor in the Department of Kinesiology, was invited by student-athlete Alondra Lizama.
  • Aida Mahmud, a professor in the Department of Psychology, was invited by student-athlete Olivia Smith.
  • Mariné Msulyan, a professor in the Department of Mathematics, was invited by student-athlete Talo Li-Uperesa.
  • Paul Petschek, is a professor in the Department of Cinema and Television Arts, was invited by student-athlete Ana Carolina De Jesus.
  • Janice M Robinson, a professor in the Department of Africana Studies, was invited by student-athlete Kayanna Spriggs.
  • Carla Valdez, a professor in the Department of Health Sciences, was invited by student-athlete Laney Amundsen.
  • Gidget Viani, a professor in the Department of Psychology, was invited by student-athlete Erica Adams.
  • Ben Yaspelkis, a professor in the Department of Kinesiology, was invited by student-athlete Rachel Harvey.
