NORTHRIDGE, Calif.---CSUN will honor former men's basketball student-athlete Nick Herrmann at the Matadors' Big West home opener against Long Beach State on Jan. 5. Together with his family members, the Matadors will celebrate the life of Herrmann during an on-court ceremony.

Herrmann was an inspiration to the entire CSUN Athletics Department. The first recruit under head coach Trent Johnson in 2021, Herrmann overcame a cancer diagnosis in high school to lead Torrey Pines High School to a CIF title as a senior. Poised to be a difference maker on the court with the Matadors, Herrmann learned that the cancer he had returned prior to the 2021-22 season.

Despite undergoing treatment, Herrmann remained with the team at practice and at games as much as he could. Serving as an emotional and vocal leader, Herrmann did everything he could to help the Matadors from the sidelines. While Herrmann would pass away on August 6, 2022, his legacy and fighting spirit will never be forgotten.

This season, the Matadors are wearing a patch with Herrmann's initials in memory of his everlasting impact on the CSUN basketball programs.
