NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - In its ongoing series of nights honoring the University Faculty, CSUN Athletics and the Matador men's basketball team paid tribute to seven professors during its Most Valuable Professor (MVP) night on Thursday (Feb. 29) in Premier America Credit Union Arena.

"The initiative of MVP Night is a testament to the profound relationships and mutual respect fostered between student-athletes and faculty members," said Shawn Chin-Farrell, CSUN's Director of Athletics.

At halftime of the CSUN-UC Irvine game, each participating student-athlete honored one professor who has significantly impacted their academic journey, underscoring the deep connections beyond the classroom. Each of the seven CSUN professors were honored in an on-court ceremony.

  • Scott Appelrouth, a professor in the Department of Sociology, was invited by student-athlete Dionte Bostick.
  • Carroll Brown, a professor in the Department of Africana Studies, was invited by student-athlete Lamine Niang.
  • Tim Conley, a professor in the Department of Africana Studies, was invited by student-athlete Bryan Ndjonga.
  • Steve Graves, a professor in the Department of Geography, was invited by student-athlete Bryan Ndjonga
  • Ced Hackett, a professor in the Department of Africana Studies, was invited by Jordan Brinson.
  • Yoko Mimura, a professor in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, was invited by student-athlete Gianni Hunt.
  • David Primes, a professor in the Department of Accounting, was invited by student-athlete Lamine Niang.
  • Andrea Rashtian, a professor in the Department of Psychology, was invited by student-athlete Kyle Frelow.

The next Most Valuable Professor Night will be held on Mar. 1 during the men's volleyball match between CSUN and the University of Charleston.
