AI JAM: AI technology solve CSUN’s challenge
California State University, Northridge (CSUN) hosted the third annual Digital Equity Day on April 19, focusing on the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Distinguished speakers Stephen Than and Deone Zell discussed the transformative potential of AI in education. Their insights delved into the revolutionary possibilities AI presents for reshaping teaching methodologies, breaking down barriers to learning, and ensuring equal opportunities for all students. Dr. Sheba Lo addressed the impact of AI on race, culture, and accessibility, urging people to confront biases embedded within technology.
Additionally, the CSUN AI Jam 2024 competition showcased student-led projects using AI to address campus challenges. Students introduced the problem and their project via AI technology in this showcase and awards.
3rd place winners are Alberto Rubalcava and Alberto Sandoval, who designed “Course Compass” to help students’ academic journey with clear guidance. 2nd place winners are Conner Nehru Juman and Cameel Emily Juman, who designed “MatBot by Chatty Matty” to solve the scheduling course and advising issue. 1st place winners are Luis Olmos, Victoria Miteva and Vaishnavi Sen, who designed the “AI Academic Course Planning Program.”
These student-led teams have tried refining their AI-powered solutions to address real-world challenges on our campus, embodying CSUN’s commitment to innovation.
